Sunrise Photography

For someone who isn’t a fan of mornings, I sure spend an awful lot of time chasing sunrise. I’m not sure why that is, but today was another opportunity for me to get out with Sir Nikolas.

So I begrudgingly set my alarm for 6. Or so I thought. Turns out I can’t tell what day it is. (I’m normally off on Thursdays, not Tuesdays). Thankfully I have a cat who has a very strict morning routine and she woke me up.

I got dressed, made my coffee, and left the house a little after 6:30 and I went about 5 miles away from my house to Asylum Point Lighthouse hoping for the light to play with the clouds.

I was not disappointed.

A tree in the frozen lake in front of a stunning sunrise at Asylum Bay. Capturing images like this is why I get up early on my days off from the day job.

I didn’t even make it to the lighthouse when I saw the pink on the horizon. I pulled over on a gravel parking area and took out Sir Nikolas and my tripod. I found a tree hanging over the lake and I photographed that. And once I was happy with my image, I continued on.

When I arrived at the lighthouse, the sky wasn’t as pink as I’d hoped, but I still got out of my car and found a nice spot to set up. I didn’t actually take a picture of the lighthouse as the sun wasn’t illuminating it as much as I would have liked. I do plan on coming back to this spot, so maybe someday I will get that image.

Along with the sunrise, I also captured a few photos of icicles hanging from a tree. This is my favorite of those ones.
