Door County 2022

The waves in Green Bay

I had some PTO to use up from the day job, so we booked a trip to Door County, Wisconsin. This trip was a little different than our trips in the past. I feel like we didn’t go to our usual destinations this time. Or if we did, we didn’t spend as much time there as we had in the past. Instead of going over the weekend, we went in the middle of the week. So, we were able to see more in a shorter amount of time since it wasn’t as busy as it usually is.

We started our first day in Door County at Peninsula State Park. We went for a bike ride on that chilly morning. I tried to make a few TikTok while riding my bike, but I’m not happy with how they turned out so I didn’t post any of them. We stopped at the beach there and I got a little too close to a seagull. We also caught the view from the tower there, but it was too windy and a little too busy for quality videos.

Afterward, we went to Cave Point County Park and Whitefish Dunes State Park. I captured several photos at Cave Point; honestly, I think it is my favorite park in Door County. The beach at Whitefish Dunes was nice but not as photogenic as I would have liked. On our way back I walked a little too close to the lake and the waves splashed into my boots. Honesty, I think they are still wet. Any tips for drying them out?

Friday was the day that we went on a completely new adventure. We decided to go all the way to the tip of Door County and catch a ferry to Washington Island. I had never been there before, and if my husband has, it was when he was too little to remember.

The ferry took us past two lighthouses, which was amazing. Every time we go out of our way to look for lighthouses we struggle and can’t find any. So to see two of them, made our day.

We also decided to ride our bikes on the island and leave our car behind. Which would have been fine if it was a little warmer, and I was more in shape than I am. There was a slight hill which made biking difficult both ways.

A cloudy day on Washington Island, Door County.
This is the only photo I took while on Washington Island.

We stopped for a lunch at a small bakery and then we started to head back to catch the ferry. Before we got back on the ferry, we stopped at an indie bookstore. We almost stopped at the coffee shop next door too. I looked at the sky and the clouds looked rather threatening and we didn’t want to get caught.

When we got back to the mainland, I took a few photos of the beach. Once I had the photos that I wanted, we stopped for an afternoon snack at Wilson’s.

We headed back home Saturday morning after breakfast and a coffee stop. It was nice to spend an extra day at home. We had a lot of housework to get caught up on.
