Yet Another Gray Sunrise

I get up before sunrise for work every day, and I get to see the beautiful colors on my way to work. And last week, I was watching the sky and wishing I had the time to go out. I did on Friday, so I set my alarm to go. And it was yet another gray sunrise.

This is the third time that I’ve tried to photograph sunrise only to be disappointed. One of these days I have to get lucky with the color. Right?! Check out here and here to read about the first two gray mornings.

The Geese

So, I went out to Asylum Bay. Yes, again, to hopefully catch the sunrise. When I got there, I saw a tiny bit of pink in the sky, so I thought I might get lucky. There was another car parked right there though, so I didn’t photograph that.

I walked across the bridge to attempt to photograph the lighthouse, but I didn’t like the composition, so I didn’t. I did see these geese swimming in the open patch of water, so I photographed them, with my 18-55 mm lens. Definitely, not the right lens for that, but it’s all I had on me.

These geese are much braver than I am. I’m cold just looking at them.

The Shoreline

Once the geese flew away I ventured down the bank onto the rocks. Seeing that open water, and knowing that it hadn’t been that cold recently, I knew better than to go on the ice. There was no one there to save me if I went in, and it wasn’t worth the risk.

From the rocks, I captured this photo of the shoreline. You can see a little hint of sun in the clouds, but unfortunately, the clouds were too low to the ground to show off that color.

yet another gray sunrise. This is the shoreline at Asylum Bay.

The real kicker is, the next day I had decided to sleep in a bit. And when I woke up, I saw the sun shining brightly through our window. And I was very disappointed. It is supposed to snow all night tonight and into tomorrow afternoon, so I probably won’t go out until Tuesday. Hopefully, it won’t be yet another gray sunrise. They can’t all be gray days.
