NaNoWriMo or No?
November is National Novel Writing Month, and I’m trying to decide if I want to participate. I distinctly remember at the end of November last year that I said I didn’t want to. But It’s October and I kind of want to do something. So I’m trying to decide if I want to have a NaNoWriMo project.
If I do, I don’t think it will be a daily blog post challenge this year like it was last year. Instead, I think it would be more of a word count challenge. But, my blog posts could count toward my word count goal. I just don’t know if I want to count words. I have never really enjoyed doing that.
This project also can’t take over my whole life, like it usually does. I have other work that needs to get done throughout the month. But if I block out time to work on it, like I have been trying to get into the habit of doing anyway, it wouldn’t have to be consuming.
Fiction Writing
However, I have been meaning to work on a book of short stories and maybe photography adventures that I’ve been on. So I have an idea, and writing a photography-related book is on my bucket list. So maybe 2023 is the year I actually sit down and write it.
Or, I could scratch that idea and work on the fiction idea that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I haven’t worked on it nearly as much as I want to, but I’m still trying to figure some things out.
What are your thoughts? Should I create a NaNoWriMo project or no? I’m still on the fence. I have a lot of prep work to do to get started, but it’s still pretty early in October so I have time to do it.

I guess a lot depends on whether or not the writing would be a pleasure or would become a chore. I think only you can decide that.
That’s a fair thing to consider.
