Bringing Back Short Story Saturday?

I’m thinking about bringing back my short story Saturday blog series. As you may remember, I wrote a short story earlier this year over several months. And then when I finished it, I stopped that series because I wanted to work on something else. I had an idea that I wanted to explore, and I didn’t want to juggle two fiction projects at the same time.

Well, that other project didn’t quite work out the way I wanted it to. I’m still playing with the characters in my head, but I’m not quite sure where they want to go just yet. So I’m putting that project on the back burner again while I think about it some more. In the meantime, I thought I would go back to writing short stories for you guys.

Would you guys like to see that series come back? Let me know in the comments below if you want to read short stories again or not.

If I bring back the short story Saturday series, there are some things that I’m going to change, and some things that I plan on keeping. Just because toward the end of it the first time, it started to feel too much like work, and it wasn’t quite as fun as I wanted it to be. I would really like to avoid that this time around if possible. Fiction writing was my first love and I want it to stay that way.

What I Would Change

  • I would like to write a finished story every month. Instead of writing several parts of a story that span over several months, I think I want to share a whole finished story every month.
  • Instead of posting once a month, I might post two. That way I can share a whole story every month like I want to, but still maybe break it up into two parts, so I don’t have one massively long post.

What I Would Do the Same

  • I’m still going to base my stories on a photo. This is a photography blog, and not a fiction writing blog, so I need to keep that in mind. This will also encourage me to go out with my camera more often than never, which has been a problem lately.
  • I still want to post on Saturdays. So this will be an extra blog post one of two times a month. Having an extra blog post or two isn’t a bad thing either.

Bringing back short story Saturday would also help my NaNoWriMo word count this year. That starts on Wednesday and honestly, I could use all the help I can get to increase my word count. I could have the stories written up by the end of the month for the rest of the year. That would be really nice to get a head start on that, and not have to worry about having to write one up the day I need to post it.

What do you guys think? Would you like to read some short stories again? At least for the rest of the year? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
